Start Receiving Town of Ponoka Alerts with the New Town Notification Service and App

Download the New App or Register Online to Receive Alerts by Text, Email or Recorded Voice Calls

The Town of Ponoka has launched a new Notification Service which includes an app that citizens can download on their smartphones. If you don’t have a smartphone, you can receive alerts by email, text or recorded voice call.

This new service sends out alerts to keep citizens informed about:

  • Utility service disruptions that could limit your access to important utilities such as water and power (for example, planned power outages for electrical maintenance, watermain breaks or boil water advisories);
  • Large-scale, local emergencies that may require immediate action to protect property and keep you and your family safe (for example, an evacuation alert due to a wildfire or train derailment); and
  • Other optional non-emergency alerts such as Town road closures, parking bans during snow removal operations, Town event notifications, curbside waste collection reminders and general Town news such as new program announcements and temporary facility closures.

Receive Critical Information Quickly

“The Town is offering this new notification service to help ensure Ponoka residents and visitors receive critical information quickly,” said Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson. “By downloading the app or registering online to receive alerts by email, text or recorded voice calls, Ponoka citizens will be kept better informed about utility service disruptions or large-scale, local emergencies, allowing us all to make more informed decisions and be better prepared for these unexpected events,” he added.

Register Today

Registering for the service is easy and it’s free. Just go the App Store or Google Play to download the Voyent Alert app onto your smartphone. Then simply enter your location and follow the instructions.

PLEASE NOTE: Some Android devices may be temporarily unable to download the Voyent Alert app until approximately November 8. This is due to a product update by the app provider that is expected to become available through the App Store and Google Play Store next week. In the meantime, Android users who are unable to download the Voyent Alert app can receive Town of Ponoka alerts via text message, email or voice calls by registering online at register.voyent-alert.com

The Town of Ponoka is using the Voyent Alert system to send out these alerts. Voyent Alert is developed by an Alberta-based company, ICEsoft Technologies.

Don’t Have a Smart Phone?

If you don’t use a smart phone and would rather receive alerts by email, text or recorded voice calls, you can also register online at register.voyent-alert.com

Choose the Alerts You Want to Receive

Once you download the Voyent Alert app and register, you will automatically be enrolled to receive all non-emergency alerts offered by the Town. To choose only the non-emergency alerts you wish to receive, click the menu icon in the top left corner of the app. Then select “My Topics” and click the check marks beside each alert topic to deselect the topics you do not want to receive.  You will receive alerts for all topics that have check marks remaining beside them.

You May Already be Registered

If you currently receive a Town of Ponoka utility bill each month, you may already be registered. Town utility customers are automatically enrolled to receive these alerts via recorded voice calls through the primary phone number and address associated with their utility bills.

Town utility customers should receive an introductory recorded voice call on November 6 to confirm they have been registered to receive alerts.

Can Utility Customers Opt Out?

Yes, opting out is easy, but we encourage you to stay subscribed so you can receive critical information that could help protect your safety and be better prepared during a utility service disruption. To opt out, simply press ‘8’ at the end of any recorded voice call, or submit an Online Service Request on the Town website at Ponoka.ca, or phone the Town Office at 403-783-4431 during office hours where Town staff can assist you in opting out.

If you would rather receive alerts through an app on your phone or by email or text, go the App Store or Google Play and download the Voyent Alert app on your phone, or register online to receive email or text alerts at register.voyent-alert.com

Who should download the app or register for this notification service?

Everyone who lives, works or visits the Town of Ponoka is encouraged to download the app or register to receive alerts by text, email or phone. This includes residents, non-resident business owners or employees who work here, or anyone who has an interest in or spends time in Ponoka. That includes tournament sports teams and Stampede-goers.
