Ponoka’s Town Council works to develop and evaluate a variety of policies and programs to help fit community needs. Council guides community development by establishing corporate policy and setting annual strategic priorities for Town staff.
Ponoka’s Town Council includes seven members, a Mayor and six Councillors, who are elected for a four-year term. The Mayor is the Chief Elected Official of the Town and has duties of both Councillor and Chief Elected Official.
Each person elected represents the community as a whole, instead of a particular ward or section of the Town. The Municipal Government Act outlines the capacities of municipal governments.
The Chief Administrative Officer is the only employee who reports to the Mayor and Council. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Town, including municipal employees.
