Board and Committee Openings

The Town of Ponoka works closely with community members who voluntarily serve on Council advisory committees. Council Advisory Committees provide insight and recommendations to Council about civic matters in Ponoka.

Serving on a Council Advisory Committee is a great way to contribute to our community and help make Ponoka an even better place to live.

Join the Town of Ponoka Community Enhancement Committee

The Town of Ponoka is inviting applications for the Community Enhancement Committee, an Advisory Committee to Ponoka Town Council:

The Committee’s mandate includes:

  • Strengthening and increasing recreational opportunities for Ponoka residents;
  • Being a liaison and advising Council on matters related to the use of services, facilities, programs and special events;
  • Receiving and reviewing capital requests for new and existing recreational facilities;
  • Considering and recommending initiatives that support the Town’s growth and economic health; and
  • Considering ideas that enhance and redevelop downtown Ponoka while maintaining its historical significance.

Paper copies of the application form and related Bylaws are available at the Ponoka Town Office at 200, 5604 – 50 Street. 

Committee members are required to follow the Town Council Appointed Boards and Committees Code of Conduct Policy. A copy of the policy and Code of Conduct are available here and at the Town Office. Deadline to apply is October 23, 2024


Join the Town of Ponoka Community Enhancement Committee

The Ponoka Jubilee Library Board is seeking applications from enthusiastic and community-minded individuals to join the Library Board. The Board is responsible for the management, organization, promotion and maintenance of comprehensive and efficient library services in the municipality.  

Please refer to Bylaw No. 366-16 for additional information.

If you are interested in serving on the Library Board please submit a completed Board application form to the Town of Ponoka on or before Wednesday, October 23, 2024. Board application forms are available here. Paper copies of the application form can also be picked up at the Town Office on the second floor of the Ponoka Civic Centre (200, 5604 50 Street).

To apply, please submit a completed Committee Application Form  to the Town of Ponoka in one of the following ways:

  • By mail to 200, 5604 50 St, Ponoka, AB, T4J 1G5.
  • By email to legislativeservices@ponoka.ca.
  • In person at the Town Office during business hours or using the drop box just inside the doors on the west side of the Ponoka Civic Centre from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays).

Community Enhancement Committee

This committee’s mandate includes:

  • Strengthening and increasing recreational opportunities for all residents of the community of Ponoka;
  • Acts as a liaison and advises Council on matters pertaining to the use of services, facilities, programs and special events;
  • Receive and review capital requests for new and existing recreational facilities;
  • Consider and recommend initiatives that will serve to enhance and support the Town’s strategic priorities for growth and economic health;
  • Consider ideas regarding the enhancement and redevelopment of downtown; and
  • Increase the identity and profile of downtown while maintaining the historical significance of Ponoka’s downtown.

Ponoka Jubilee Library Board

Council appoints community members to sit on the Ponoka Jubilee Library Board. The Library Board, subject to any enactment that limits its authority, has full management and control of the municipal library and shall, in accordance with the regulations, organize, promote and maintain comprehensive and efficient library services in the municipality and may cooperate with other boards and libraries in the provision of those services.

Ponoka Police Advisory Committee

This committee continues in its current role as a valuable resource to Council. 

This committee’s mandate includes:

  • Provide community feedback to the R.C.M.P. and Chief Administrative Officer concerning policing strategies and activities;  
  • Represent the interests and concerns of the public and Council to the Officer in Charge;
  • Provide advice and make recommendations to Council relating to policing matters; and 
  • Participate in the development of a yearly plan of priorities and strategies for municipal policing, to be submitted to Council.

Priorities and Initiatives Committee

This committee will provide oversight and monitor the progress of the Council’s Strategic Plan. All members of Council sit on this committee.
