Social Media Participation Guidelines and Standards

The Town of Ponoka encourages everyone to participate on our social media pages. Social media enables us to provide information quickly, share pictures, and repost information of interest to people who live and work in Ponoka. Information posted on social media is done by authorized Town staff and is considered public information. 

You may address questions or comments to the Town publicly, but please remember that it will be visible and remain on the site for others to see. 

You may also contact the Town by:

  • Email at town@ponoka.ca; or 
  • Submit an online service request with your questions. Our online service request tool is the quickest and most effective way to submit a question or service request to the Town. Your service request is sent directly to the department responsible and dealt with in the most timely manner.

The Town maintains social media sites in-accordance with our mission to provide accessible government and quality services. We have a strong commitment to serving our community. Our social media pages help us to maintain transparency and open communication with the community. The Town of Ponoka maintains a workplace valuing respect and dignity. 

Whether in-person or online we ask that everyone honour this in their communications with our staff and with other online visitors. 

If any comments or discussions are considered not to be in keeping with our official goals, mission or values they will be moderated in the interests of maintaining the Town's policies as well as protecting the Town, its staff, its residents and businesses, its volunteers, contracted services and others from unlawful comments governed by Canadian laws and statutes related to electronic communications. 

Should you have any inquiries or comments of a sensitive nature, we invite you to visit us in person to discuss your questions or point of view. We treat discussions on our online page the same way we would treat them if a person was standing at our reception counter: with courtesy and respect, and with an expectation of civil courtesy and respect in return. 

By participating in the Town of Ponoka’s social media platforms, you agree to the following Terms and Conditions in place to govern use and conduct by social media operated by the Town for its use. You are solely responsible for any content you post. You may not misrepresent yourself or take the identity of someone else while using the Town of Ponoka’s social media sites. 

You agree not to use the Town of Ponoka’s official social media sites in the following ways:

  • Personal attacks 
  • Defamation 
  • Harassment 
  • Spamming (including posting the same comment or comments that convey the same general message on multiple posts) 
  • Offensive content (including obscene language, sexual content, or content that promotes hatred) 
  • Aggressive or threatening behaviour 
  • Promoting Illegal activities 
  • Promotion of commercial products or services 
  • Disclosure of private or confidential information 
  • Bullying posts of an unsubstantiated nature 
  • Violating the legal ownership interest of another party 
  • Supporting or opposing political candidates or partisan views (this does not include Town of Ponoka-initiated ballot propositions or plebiscites) 

Comments posted to our social media sites will be monitored. 

The Town of Ponoka reserves the right to remove inappropriate comments that, in its sole discretion, exhibit any of the above behaviour, and those that are not topically related to the subject of the forum or a particular posting. The Town of Ponoka is not responsible for the content of shared information or links posted to raise awareness of other organizations or events. These linkages do not constitute endorsements by the Town of Ponoka. 

By posting content on any online channel owned by the Town of Ponoka, you give the Town permission to use your content including the right to copy, distribute, transmit, display, reproduce, edit, translate, reformat and incorporate into a collective work. 

Please be aware that by posting publicly, any other participants in social media channels may use your content beyond the control of the Town, as we do not have the ability to monitor, intercept or otherwise remove your content from any web presence owned by any another entity.
