What Does that Flashing Green Light Mean?

Vehicle with green light flashingPonoka County Regional Fire Services and the Town of Ponoka would like to remind drivers that when they see a vehicle with a flashing green light, they are encouraged to slow down and pull over safely to allow the vehicle to pass.

That flashing green light indicates that a firefighter is on their way to the fire hall to respond to an emergency in our community.

By pulling over when it is safe to do so and letting them safely pass, you are helping them get to an emergency faster to possibly save lives and property.

Please note:
  • When using a flashing green light, firefighters are still required to follow all rules and regulations under the Traffic Safety Act, including posted speed limits, stop signs and red lights.

  • Green lights are typically mounted on the lower dash or near the rear-view mirror of the vehicle. Unlike sirens, there is no sound associated with the green lights.
Thank you for helping ensure the safety of our firefighters and helping to improve emergency response times in our community.
