Ponoka Aquaplex Will Host Free Swim and Community BBQ for National Drowning Prevention Week

The Ponoka Aquaplex will host a free swim and free outdoor community barbecue on Thursday, July 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. in recognition of National Drowning Prevention Week which kicks off the following week from July 19 to 25. The community barbecue will move indoors at the Aquaplex if it rains.

Other planned activities at the Ponoka Aquaplex during National Drowning Prevention Week include:

  • July 20: Bring a Buddy Day – Two-for-one admission to the Aquaplex all day
  • July 21: Swim to Survive Challenge
  • July 22: Wear a Lifejacket, Get a Prize
  • July 23: Boat Safety Day
  • July 24: Beach Day

Over 400 Canadians die in preventable water-related incidents every year. National Drowning Prevention Week helps build skills and awareness about these incidents in an effort to prevent these types of tragedies.
