Extended Producer Responsibility

Responsibility for collection of recyclable materials at the curb in Ponoka has transferred to a new non-profit organization called Circular Materials

The change, which is taking place in municipalities across the province, is the result of new provincial Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation and regulations in Alberta. EPR shifts the responsibility for recycling from municipalities to producers of single-use packaging and paper products to encourage these businesses to find new innovative ways to recycle materials and reduce waste.

Recyclable materials will continue to be picked up by the contractor, E360S, biweekly throughout the year in accordance with the existing collection schedule. Residents should continue to place recyclables in clear or blue transparent bags at the curb each week with no changes.
