Citizens Invited to Offer Input on Proposed Design for Lions Centennial Park
Ponoka citizens are invited to offer their input on a conceptual design for improvements to Lions Centennial Park. Community members can learn more about the proposed design and provide feedback by completing a survey in one of three ways:
- In-person at the Town’s booth at the Ponoka Community Expo on April 24 and 25 at the Ponoka Arena Complex;
- Online at LetsTalkPonoka.ca. Please note that no registration is required to fill out the Lions Centennial Park survey, which only takes a few minutes to complete; and
- Paper copies will be available at the Ponoka Aquaplex (5315 46 Avenue), Ponoka Arena Complex (4410 54 Street) and the Town Office on the second floor of the Ponoka Civic Centre (#200 5604 50 Street).
Public engagement will remain open until Sunday, May 24, at 11:59 p.m.
“The proposed conceptual design will revitalize Lions Centennial Park to better serve our community. We have received feedback from our citizens over the years asking for improvements to the park. We are excited to launch the design process and to invite community input on this project,” said Andrew Jones, Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities for the Town of Ponoka.
The current conceptual design features the following proposed improvements:
- Upgraded trails that are easily accessible for people with mobility challenges;
- Naturalized walkway loops and connection paths;
- An active recreation zone with the existing splash park, relocated playground and a new adventure park;
- An additional dock;
- New barbecue pits, picnic tables with shelters and park furniture;
- Landscaping and fencing;
- Public washrooms;
- New lighting; and
- Improvements to the existing public parking
lot and museum parking lot.
“The proposed upgrades would transform Lions Centennial Park into a revitalized, multi-use public space for gatherings, recreation, events and community connection,” said Jones.
Design Development Process
Once public input is gathered on the conceptual design, the Town of Ponoka will create a more detailed design based on the input received.
Construction of the upgrades to Lions Centennial Park will depend on future consideration and approval of the facility design, location and budget by Town Council.
The upgrades to Lions Centennial Park align with Council’s strategic priority of investing in Town infrastructure and building a vibrant community.
