Official Grand Opening and Celebration of Rodeo Drive (Highway 53) Corridor Improvement Project
The Town of Ponoka hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony this past Friday (June 26), celebrating the official grand opening and completion of extensive improvements to Rodeo Drive (Highway 53) in Ponoka.
During the ceremony, the Minister of Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, the Honourable Devin Dreeshen, and Town of Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson spoke about the importance of the Rodeo Drive Corridor Improvement Project and the partnership between the Province and the Town of Ponoka in carrying out this project.
The celebration also highlighted the many improvements and upgrades to Rodeo Drive that have been completed over the past year, including:
- Pavement resurfacing and concrete repairs;
- Upgrades to the 46 Street intersection, including new traffic lights, paving, concrete, lighting and realignment of that intersection;
- Intersection improvements at 45 Avenue;
- Expansion of the Town’s multi-use trail network along Rodeo Drive with a new paved trail extending from Highway 2A to 46 Street;
- Closure of 54 Street access at Rodeo Drive;
- Stormwater infrastructure upgrades;
- New upgraded streetlighting;
- Fencing and landscaping; and
- Wayfinding signage and the renaming of the roadway to Rodeo Drive.
