Information for Voters
Individuals can vote in the Town of Ponoka's municipal election if they:
- are at least 18 years old;
- are a Canadian citizen;
- are a resident of the Town of Ponoka on Election Day (October 18, 2021).
If a candidate, a candidate's official agent, or a scrutineer believes a voter is not eligible to vote, an objection will be noted on the voting register.
Voting more than once is a punishable offense under the Local Authorities Election Act. Offenders face up to six months of imprisonment, a maximum $10,000 fine, or both.
Only eligible electors who live the Town will be permitted to vote in the Town of Ponoka's municipal election. If you have more than one residence in Alberta, you must designate one place of residence. Section 48 of the Local Authorities Election Act provides more information on determining residency.
Individuals who own property or a business in Ponoka, but are not residents are not permitted to vote.
In order to vote, you must provide one piece of authorized identification that establishes both your name and current residential address.
