Latest Updates on the Town of Ponoka COVID-19 Response
All Town facilities, including the Town Office at the Ponoka Civic Centre and the Aquaplex, are following the provincial government’s direction on reopening, which means most provincial health restrictions are no longer in place. This includes mandatory masking and physical distancing.
Citizens who wish to continue wearing a mask are welcome to do so. Visitors to Town facilities who aren’t feeling well are asked to please stay home and follow provincial health guidelines at www.alberta.ca/covid19 on whether to get tested for COVID-19.
Transitioning Back to ‘Normal’
While most provincial health restrictions are no longer in place at Town facilities, Town of Ponoka Chief Administrative Officer Sandra Lund said the transition to getting life ‘back to normal’ may take time.
“We expect some people will want to continue wearing masks and physical distancing for a while yet depending on their comfort level,” said Lund. “We encourage citizens and visitors at all Town facilities to please be respectful of people’s personal choices to still wear a mask or distance from others as a safety measure,” she said.
The Ponoka Town Office, located on the second floor of the Ponoka Civic Centre, reopened to public access in mid-June. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Citizens who wish to continue doing business with the Town by phone, email and online are encouraged to do so using the following contact information:
Drop Box: There is a drop box for bill payments and other correspondence with the Town just inside the doors on the west side of the Ponoka Civic Building. The drop box is available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Ponoka residents are encouraged to get vaccinated as it continues to be the best protection against COVID-19. For information on how to book a vaccine appointment, please visit www.alberta.ca/covid19.
